Climate change is affecting every aspect of our lives, including sports. Many leagues are beginning to experience the consequences of unmitigated fossil fuel consumption, and baseball is no exception. It is time to investigate the effects of climate change on baseball, what measures are in place to limit these effects, and what measures should be in place to protect players and the environment.

Who am I?

My name is Nat Lange and I’m an Environmental Studies-Politics major at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. I’ve been a Mariners fan my whole life, and when I would go to games as a child, I would see signs in the ballpark boasting their run as Recycling Champions from 2010-2018 and Green Glove award for in 2017. Since then, I’ve been thinking about the ways that baseball, climate change, and the environment intersect, so I decided to start writing about it here.

Who am I writing for?

My goal is to inspire baseball fans to think about more than just the wins, losses, and their favorite players, but also about the effect sports have on community and the environment. I also want to show climate-minded people that sports can and should be a part of a just transition movement. Inspired by Alex Bazeley and Bobby Wagner of Tipping Pitches, I aim to bring people fresh and exciting content that both entertains and informs.

How often will I post?

I am a busy college student so I will post irregularly at the beginning, but I have a weekly posting goal for the future. All of my content is currently free, I hope you enjoy my writing!
